“I Spy With My Little Eye” at Belvedere 21, Vienna, 20–22 November 2026

VR Dance Club presents “I Spy With My Little Eye” at Belvedere 21 in Vienna, as part of the 20th edition of the FROG Conference, themed “Playing Art”.

Join us in Vienna from 20–22 November 2026!

A performer wearing virtual reality glasses dances on a dance floor. Nearby, a visitor draws something in the air with sweeping arm movements. Although the two cannot look each other in the eye, they appear to be in contact with each other. They move towards each other, away from each other, around each other, engaging in a dialogue at the level of movement. What is their invisible connection?

In this one-on-one performance, a dancer and a visitor engage in a dialogue without language, through VR, drawing and movement. Its title refers to the children’s game “I spy with my little eye”. In their shared duet, virtual drawings emerge that cannot be seen, traces that cannot be read and movements that cannot be recognised – in search of a common ground for dialogue. More than 220 of these encounters have been preserved as movement sculptures so far.

How do we see, sense and feel ourselves and each other? How can you connect with someone you cannot see? How much trust and risk-taking does the non-verbal dialogue of a danced duet require? And how does it feel to revisit a jointly created movement trace?

Since its premiere in 2022 at PATHOS Theater Munich, “I Spy With My Little Eye” has been shown at festivals including Temps d’Images at tanzhaus nrw, Next Level at Zeche Zollverein, A MAZE Berlin, Reboot Develop in Dubrovnik, Moovy Tanzfilmfestival in Cologne and SomaFest at the Cologne Game Lab. Vienna marks its return after three years.

On entering the space, visitors become part of the performance. As spectators, they can walk around the dance floor, follow the encounters and imagine the invisible sculptures. In their own 18-minute slot, visitors enter the dance floor themselves and immerse themselves deeper and deeper into the virtual space through various phases. A special dialogue without language – with a stranger and with oneself.

No previous experience in dance or technology is required.
