How do we meet in hybrid spaces? Questions like these drive choreographer Anna-Carolin Weber and interaction designer Tobias Kopka against the backdrop of current socio-political developments in digitalisation, networking, extended reality and artificial intelligence. Central to their performative installations, which present themselves as a choreographed dialogue of dance, virtual reality application, video projection, light and live sound: playing with new possibilities for action in an extended space staged as democratic. Visitors from all generations are invited to actively shape their intense sensory experiences – guided by impulses and tasks, so-called ‘scores’. The numerous feedback from visitors and the movement sculptures created by participants – quasi distorted notations – are essential for further artistic exploration.

Together with their project-ensemble VR Dance Club, the Cologne-based duo has so far produced three works on the theme of ‘Movement – Encounter – Data Processing’ and presented them at HAU – Hebbel am Ufer Berlin, tanzhaus nrw Düsseldorf, Freihandelszone Cologne, PATHOS Theatre Munich and Zeche Zollverein Essen.

The VR Dance Club functions as a platform for projects in which the Cologne-based media choreographer duo uses their choreographic interaction concepts to forge close links with other artists: René*e Reith works as a dramaturge and performer who initiates research and staging processes from a queer-feminist perspective in combination with theory and practice. Helena Miko is a performer who is currently writing her doctoral thesis on “Dance – Artistic Research – Postdigitality” at the Institute for Dance and Movement Culture at the German Sport University Cologne. Jasper Gather is a lighting designer who develops installations and live light compositions. Philip Kühn is responsible for sound design and DJ-ing, Marlon Brodda/Paul Förster for stage construction and live projections, Alessandro De Matteis for live videography and Max Kolb for virtual reality operation and web development. Phillip Dittmann works as a technical artist and assists with performance and virtual reality operations.
